MISSION The mission of the NEW YORK SKYLINERS field corps, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, performance-based organization, is to promote the musical advancement, Education and welfare of the youth and adult members of the organization.
GOALS The NEW YORK SKYLINERS field corps strives to fulfill this mission by achieving the following basic goals:

To attract, train and further the artistic skills of all members by providing a wealth of knowledge and musical expertise through our educators
-
To teach life skills to young people, including money and time management, conflict resolution, teamwork, self-discipline, and leadership. Young people will also learn from more mature veteran educators, members, and administrators.

To provide this diverse group of people with the opportunity to perform locally and across the Northeast while also experiencing other groups’ musical and visual performances.

To honor the longevity and history of this unique, special organization.

To promote and support the drum and bugle corps activity through participation in parades, concerts, contests, and exhibitions.

To provide opportunities develop personal enrichment through education, participation and performance for all members.

Accommodate members’ divergent needs and learning styles. Learning through music is a lifelong process and journey. Learning promotes the investigation of old and new ideas, critical thinking and aesthetic awareness, as well as alternative ways of knowing and understanding.

Build relationships with our local and extended communities through interaction with and outreach through performance opportunities. This will broaden the NEW YORK SKYLINERS organization’s experience and reach.
History
HISTORY HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Meetings were first held in 1945 to create a senior corps for members of two NYC American Legion Junior Corps -The Phoebe Apperson Hearst Post #1197, and the Grand Street Boys from Post #1025. Membership was accepted into the American Legion in 1946 and the post received their first charter as the Raymond A. Garbarina Memorial Corps, later called the Garbarina Skyliners.

Charter Member in DCA Circuit (Drum Corps Associates) 1963 World Open Champions 1966, 1971 and 1975 DCA World Champions 1999 and 2002 DCA Class A Champions Recipients of numerous Awards and Accolades over the years

Performances at Carnegie Hall (1962), Symphony Hall (Newark), Madison Square Garden and Numerous Sports Arenas

Many members part of the Drum Corps Hall of Fame

Members/Instructors are graduates of numerous college music programs

Members with Experience Marching with top DCI and DCA Corps

Members with Experience with Premiere Winter Guard Programs

Supporters of the High School Music Programs and Associations (USSBA Volunteers)
